Youth between 18-21 years old from across Alaska are eligible to apply to serve as ambassadors for their communities and country by building awareness at home and abroad about their lives in the Arctic. Mental Health First Aid training

Student Health and Counseling is offering several Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trainings throughout the semester. MHFA is a course that teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges.

Graduate student spotlight: Carter Johnson

Carter Johnson, current Ph.D. student in Fisheries, is focused on understanding interactions between sea otters and the Dungeness crab fishery in southeast Alaska. Sea otters were reintroduced to the area in the 1960s after decades of absence and as that population has grown, concerns have emerged around potential conflicts with fisheries.

Residential heater program could help FNSB improve air quality

The Alaska Center for Energy and Power is conducting an electric thermal storage heater field study that will take place over three years in North Pole, Alaska. The goal of the study is to learn whether electric thermal storage heaters, a type of supplementary heating appliance, can help reduce home heating costs and improve air quality, especially PM2.5.
